Fortera’s Groundbreaking ‘Green’ Cement Production Facility in Redding, California: A Sustainable Solution for CO2 Emission Reduction

1 min read

Fortera has opened its first environmentally-friendly cement production facility in North America, situated in Redding, California. This ReCarb plant covers an area of 2787m2 and operates alongside the existing CalPortland cement plant. It captures CO₂ emissions and converts the CO₂ into calcium carbonate to produce the company's low-carbon ReAct cement, significantly reducing emissions by 70% compared to traditional methods. The facility aims to capture 6600t/yr of CO₂ and produce 15,000t/yr of 'green' cement.

Fortera CEO Ryan Gilliam announced that the company has 20 upcoming projects with various cement producers, with each project costing US$150 million. This includes a plant in the Midwest that will have 25 times the capacity of the Redding plant, producing 400,000t/yr of 'green' cement.
